Welcome to the 10th annual Lavazza Italian Film Festival
I am immensely proud of how far we have come. From humble beginnings back in 2000, screening a handful of films in Sydney and Melbourne over a few days, to the national Festival that we see today.
It's rewarding to see a Festival that was born from love for Italian cinema grow into an event of this scale - an event for Australians, Italo- Australians, Italophiles and cinephiles alike. I am grateful for the support offered over the years by you, our loyal audience, our sponsors, our cultural partners, the media and the staff of Palace Cinemas and Films.
In 2009 the tradition continues - with another brilliant selection of Italy's most highly acclaimed and multi-award winning contemporary films, sourced from the Cannes, Berlin, Rome and Venice Film Festivals.
Highlights include our opening selection VINCERE from Marco Bellochio, this year's box office champion MANY KISSES LATER (Molti Baci Dopo), Marco Risi's stunning debut FORTAPÀSC, Pupi Avati's acclaimed GIOVANNA'S FATHER (Il papà di Giovanna) and Ferzan Oztepek's A PERFECT DAY (Un giorno perfetto).
This year's Festival also presents, to mark our 10th anniversary, a selection of outstanding films from the Festival archives that I have personally chosen. These are the gems that represent the very best of contemporary Italian filmmaking and I strongly urge you to either re-visit or discover them for the first time.
We look forward to our next 10 years!
Cavaliere Antonio Zeccola, Festival Director
It is my personal pleasure to welcome the 10th edition of
the Italian Film Festival.
Cinema provides a bridge among people all over the world: the screening of the latest and best productions of the Italian film industry promotes the awareness and knowledge of current Italian cultural trends and of the many expressions of the Italian way of life. I would like to thank “Palace Films and Cinemas” for their constant effort in this respect, distributing Italian movies in Australia.
Italy has a long tradition in film production and it has given major contributions to this form of art, since the early years of the XX century. Film making in Italy draws today on a new wave of creativity, with a young generation of directors and actors, whose names are becoming internationally well known. The 10th edition of the Italian Film Festival will show eighteen new productions.
The Embassy of Italy, the Italian Consular Network and the Italian Institutes of Culture in Australia are delighted to be part of this great event and I would like to wish the Australian audience an entertaining and enjoyable Italian Film Festival.

Italian Ambassador to Australia
